Customs chief meets Alake, seeks collaboration in fight against smuggling

Comptroller of Ogun I Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, James Ojo, has called for collaboration in the fight against smuggling.

Ojo made the call on Thursday during a visit to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

The visit according to him aligns with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs’ who he said believes in innovation, cooperation and consolidation.

The comptroller while appreciating the support of traditional rulers in the state noted that they help in maintaining security, peace and order in their communities.

He pointed out that traditional rulers have improved border security and assisted in the fight against smuggling.

Emphasizing on the need for a united effort to tackle smuggling and other economic crimes as Ogun State borders the Republic of Benin, Ojo maintained that this will safeguard the nation’s borders and promote economic growth.

Similarly, he urged security agencies in the state to join hands to address the challenges posed by smuggling and other cross-border crimes through sharing intelligence, resources and expertise.
