A campaign coordinator of the All Progressives Congress Governorship Council in the United States, Oyakhilome Bello, has appealed to voters in Edo State not to sell their conscience for pecuniary gains despite the economic hardship ravaging the country.
The APC chieftain’s appeal, which was contained in a statement issued on Friday, comes two months before the Edo governorship election.
Three political gladiators have emerged as favourites ahead of the September 21 poll fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The governorship candidates include Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.
While admitting there is economic hardship in the country, Bello pleaded that the electorate should seek to do the right thing by voting for the APC candidate, who he described as a ‘homeboy.’
The politician also decried the deplorable state of infrastructure, saying only Okpebholo and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, can change the narrative.
According to him, the duo was commissioned to redeem the state and bring it to an enviable height.
He said, “Edo people are enjoined not to trade their conscience for pecuniary gains or deceptive promises. Let us all cast our votes for the deliverer of our time. For nearly eight years, Edo seems to be under siege, characterised by governmental high-handedness, flagrant disregard for the rule of law, and separation of powers.
“But divinity has hearkened to the cries of the people and sent us a duo whose political emergence is nothing short of the hands of God in the affairs of men.
“With an articulated blueprint, they are positioned to put Edo on the world stage come September 21, 2024, let us troop out en masse and through the ballot, make this divine mandate a reality. Besides, Okpebholo has stated clearly that if elected as Edo State’s next governor, his government would base governance on a five-point agenda.”
He also expressed confidence that if elected as Edo’s next governor, Okpebholo and his running mate would deliver beyond expectations
