Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State have urged the electorate to vote for the party’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, in the September 21 governorship election.
They said their administration would accord and uphold respect for the traditional institutions and bring massive development to every sector of the state.
The APC leaders spoke on Thursday when the party took its campaign train to the Egor Local Government Area in Benin.
The Director General of the APC campaign, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, told the crowd that the APC had great confidence in the party’s candidate and his running mate.
Urhoghide said, “We are not here for any jamboree but to pass the message of our candidates to you. We are proud of our candidate, and this massive turnout is a clear testimony that the people of Ogor are happy with our party.
“We must tell the people of Edo South why we decided to choose Monday Okpebholo. Okpebholo, as a senator, is representing five LGAs, which is almost one-third of the state. Since he has done so well, we decided to shift the governorship to the Edo Central Senatorial District.
“He has promised to revamp agriculture, security, and employment and, above all, pledged to respect and uphold the Benin traditional institution.
“For Dennis Idahosa, it is clear he has the mandate of his people, and that is why he has continued to win election after election in the Ovia Federal Constituency.”
On his part, a former deputy governor of the state, Pius Odubu, said the only meaningful development recorded in the state was during the administration of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, adding that Edo could not afford another four years of uneventful rule in the state.
In his remarks, Oshiomhole assured the people that all the alleged diversion, embezzlement, and oppression perpetrated under the present government would be a thing of the past when the APC comes on board.
Okpebholo, in his speech, promised to rebuild dilapidated schools across the state, provide primary health care and uphold the sanctity of traditional institutions.
