The Edo State Police Command said it has commenced the mopping up of illegal arms and ammunition ahead of the September 21, 2024, governorship election in the state.

DAILY POST reports that the Command disclosed this during a meeting with chairmen of political parties and governorship candidates participating in the election.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Moses Yamu, said Commissioner of Police Nemi Iwo solicited information from members of the public that would assist the police in ensuring an enabling environment for the election.

Yamu said the commissioner also appealed to chairmen of political parties and governorship candidates as stakeholders in the electoral process, to prevail on their supporters to shun all forms of violence during the election.

He assured political parties of adequate security to ensure that people go out to exercise their franchise without fear of harassment or any form of intimidation.

He also assured that the police and sister security agencies would ensure that all stakeholders, including electoral materials, are protected for a peaceful election.
