Forces from the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have captured ten individuals, including eight members of Boko Haram and two infamous individuals involved in kidnappings, in Taraba State.

Naija News reports that details of the recent operation were made available in a press release issued Tuesday in Jalingo by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations.

The press release stated that the arrests were made as a result of a meticulously planned operation on September 29, 2024, at the home of Tukura Abdul-Kareem, who was suspected of leading Boko Haram in Sunkani Ward, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, Taraba State.

Captain Oni disclosed that Abdul-Kareem and eight others were taken into custody during the operation.

The individuals, who had travelled from various regions of the country to join Boko Haram, admitted to their affiliation with the group.

“The investigation revealed that the group had plans to set up a hidden cell in Taraba, aiming to carry out attacks with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on civilians and important infrastructure,” the statement explained.

The spokesperson also mentioned that Abdul-Kareem admitted to his participation in Boko Haram activities with his brother, Adamu Abdul-Kareem, who is currently at large.

Among the items seized from the suspects were nine mobile phones, identity documents, and illegal substances, including marijuana and other narcotics.

Also, on a different mission on September 30, 2024, troops based in Chachanji village, located in the Takum Local Government Area, apprehended two females, Patience Avadoo Tersoo and Joy Nguemo Emmanuel.

These women, thought to be the spouse and sibling of a well-known kidnapper named Anyogo, were suspected of supplying crucial details to his criminal network.

During the raid, the soldiers took possession of a smartphone, a motorcycle, and a calabash from the individuals.

The leader of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the dedication and quick response of the soldiers, noting that their efforts had disrupted a terror scheme and protected the citizens of the state.

He also expressed his appreciation for the Taraba community for their assistance and important information, emphasizing the importance of their continued support in preserving peace and security.

“Together, we will continue to ensure a safer and more secure Taraba and Nigeria at large,” Uwa said.
