Streets in Osogbo, Osun State capital were largely deserted Thursday morning, just as participants in the end hunger protest began a procession from Freedom Park Area.

Moving through the state capital before the protesters began their procession, our correspondent observed that shops, motor parks, and other business places were under locks and keys.

Streets were also free of traffic, while security operatives were also observed at strategic points across the city.

The usual early morning how hustling and bustling around Olaiya, Old Garage, Igbona and Ayetoro Areas were obliviously absent with few residents seen gathering in groups discussing.

Addressing the protesters before the march took off, one of the leaders of the protest, Alfred Adegoke, urged the participants to remain peaceful.

“We are here to participate in the protest and we must remain peaceful. Our presence is to send a signal to the leaders in Nigeria that we are not going to take more hardship.

“We are here to tell them that we are capable of organising a peaceful protest. Let’s remain peaceful. We are all hungry and angry. People should come out and join us,” Adegoke said.
