Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved ₦80,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the state.
Naija News reports that Mbah announced the latest development in a statement on his X page on Thursday.
The governor said the new minimum wage will take effect in October.
He wrote, “I have just approved a minimum wage of N80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024.
“We appreciate the hard work and sacrifices of the state’s workforce and will continue to prioritise their welfare in line with our campaign promises. Tomorrow is here.”
The development comes barely 24 hours after Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno and Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, approved a new minimum wage for civil servants in their respective states.
Idris approved the sum of N75,000 as the minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
Naija News reports that Governor Idris signed the state minimum wage into law on Wednesday.
It was gathered that national officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) were present during the signing.
Meanwhile, Governor Eno also announced N80,000 for employees of the Akwa Ibom State government.
The Governor established an Implementation Committee with a one-month deadline to finalize how the new wage will be executed.
This was made known in a statement on Wednesday by Ini Ememobong, the State Commissioner for Information.
The committee, chaired by the State’s Head of Civil Service, includes the Accountant General of the State, the State Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, and the State Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, among others.
