The immediate past local government chairmen in Ogun State have denied backing the former chairman of Ijebu East local government, Wale Adedayo’s allegation against governor Dapo Abiodun.
Adedayo had accused Abiodun of diverting allocations intended for 20 local government areas in the state.
DAILY POST had reported that following that allegation, Adedayo was suspended and later impeached as the chairman of the local government.
The state government also dragged Adedayo to court over false allegations and defamation of character against Governor Abiodun.
However Adedayo on Saturday in an interview disclosed that the letter was written in agreement with 17 council chairmen under the aegis of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON.
He said his fundamental mistake was using his local government’s letterhead rather than that of the association and appending only his signature on it.
However, the former chairmen on Monday in a press conference held in Abeokuta, said Adedayo acted alone, describing him as a liar on a mission to pull others down.
Former chairman of the association, Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, said the letter was written without their involvement and they were only informed after he had sent it out.
“ The truth is that Wale acted alone and all efforts to make him allow for internal resolution of the crisis failed because he made it clear that he was acting in concert with external forces and wouldn’t do anything until he had a meeting with them.
“Wale is definitely acting a script and trying to pull down other people. He does not need to do this,” he said.
He asked Adedayo to stop “destroying people who tried to protect him,” stating that “it was inhumane to do so.”
