Minister of water resources and sanitation, Engr Joseph Utsev has expressed the commitment of the federal government to revamping all its ongoing water projects across the country.

Utsev who spoke with newsmen shortly after inspecting the Ilesa Dam in Osun State, restated the determination of the federal government to provide potable water for the citizens hence his inspection of water projects across the country.

inister, accompanied by the Osun State commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Sunday Oroniyi, had a brainstorming session with consultants at the Dam sites visited on Wednesday and Thursday in the state.

Among the sites visited by the minister are Ilesa Water Dam in Kajola, Ife Water Dam at Ogudu, among several other sanitation projects across the state.

The minister said he was on a three-day inspection tour of water project sites across the southwest state in a bid to boost water supply for Nigerians.

“We’ve been going round the country, and now, we are touring the Southwest zone of the country which brought us to these dam sites which are being constructed here in Osun.

“And the aim of this dam is to supply water to the treatment plant for onward supply to the inhabitants of this particular area. But visiting this particular dam, I’ve noticed that the quantity of water that was needed for treatment to supply to the inhabitants is not enough.

“Having spoken with the consultant, the stakeholders will deliberate on the reports they submitted and look at different options to arrive at environmental-friendly and cost-effective ways of making sure that adequate water is available for the citizens,” the minister said.

He added that after completing his tour of various water and other project sites across the country, he would also devise a means to ensure that Nigerians get value for money on all the projects under the ministry.

Also, the commissioner for Water Resources in Osun State, Sunday Oroniyi described the minister’s visit as a positive turnaround for both Ilesa and Ile-Ife water projects.
