The Nasarawa State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has warned proprietors of Driving Schools across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state against sharp practices.

The state’s Sector Commander Lucia Samuel-Mhii gave the warning in her opening remarks at a capacity building workshop for proprietors and instructors of driving schools on Thursday in Lafia.

Samuel-Mhii noted that the exercise was in compliance with the directive from the Training Department of the FRSC Headquarters, Abuja, to conduct mandatory training for owners of driving schools across the country.

She reiterated that operators of driving schools must ensure that applicants undergo full training before they are given permission to go for tests and, thereafter, acquire driving licences.

The FRSC boss in the state also said that applicants must not be allowed to stay at home or offices while their names were being uploaded into the system by proxy.

“Follow the right channel because compromising the process will produce negative results and increase crashes on the highways,” she warned.

The FRSC boss further highlighted that the current state of affairs on the roads was a direct result of the actions or inactions of the driving schools.

According to Samuel-Mhii, “The drivers on the roads are products of these schools, and their contributions to either the reduction or increase in crashes should be a matter of concern.

“Pay close attention to the lectures and apply the knowledge gained to make our highways safer for all road users,” the sector commander added.

In his goodwill message, the Acting Chairman of the Nasarawa State Driving Schools Association of Nigeria, Sunday Egwu, appreciated the management of the FRSC for building their capacities to ensure safer roads for all citizens of the country.

Therefore, he promised to implement what they had learned at the workshop with a view to producing qualified and certified drivers.

Arewa PUNCH reports that 22 out of the 45 driving schools across the 13 LGAs of the state participated in the training exercise.
