Fuel hike: It’s unfair for transport fares to increase by 50 per cent – Buhari’s ex-aide

Bashir Ahmad, an ex-aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has suggested that transporters are taking advantage of Nigerians amidst the increase in fuel pump price per liter.

Ahmad described as unfair the surge in transport fares saying there’s no fairness in the way transport fares surged to more than 50%, when compared to the current fuel price increment of N890.

“The fuel price increment is approximately from N680 to N890, yet transport fares have surged by 50%. What can we call this? Certainly anything but fair. There is no fairness in it at all,” Ahmad posted on his X handle on Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that the latest hike in the price of petrol has pushed up transport fares by over 50 percent in major cities across Nigeria.

The newest price hikes, implemented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s (NNPCL) Retail Management, range from N855 to N897 per litre, depending on the location, from the previous N568-N617.
