Goverrnor Mutfwang Pardons 13 Prison Inmates

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has granted pardon to 13 prison inmates.

This act, based on recommendations from the Plateau State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, is to commemorate 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, I, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, Nigeria, after consultation with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, do hereby exercise my power of Prerogative of Mercy,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries are Bitrus Gonkir, Umar Adams, Monday Pam and Jibrin Ibrahim who received absolute pardon. Victor Pam will serve one year and eight months from approval date, Daniel Umar, two years 11 months, Husaini Ya’u two years and Dauda Joshua five years.

Moses John will serve one year two months from approval date; Nanfa Yusuf, Harisu Abdullahi and Binsing Nden had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment.

Governor Mutfwang said the beneficiaries had shown remorse for their crimes, based on the recommendations from the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He urged the public to focus on dialogue and reconciliation for a progressive and prosperous state, highlighting democracy as the best model for addressing national challenges.
