Nigerian singer , Oxlade, recently shared his thoughts on the music industry in a candid interview.
He expressed frustration with individuals he believes are undermining his success, clarifying that his recent social media posts stemmed from these frustrations rather than any specific grievances.
Oxlade criticised those who attempt to control others’ paths, emphasizing that some of his challenges in the industry are not directly related to music. He noted that personal interactions, such as how he greets people, can lead to misunderstandings and resentment.
“I hate the mindset of people trying to play god… When they feel like they can determine your trajectory,” he stated, expressing his disdain for such attitudes.
Reflecting on his experiences in the music scene, Oxlade mentioned that he feels more appreciated in Ghana than in Nigeria, noting the support he has received from the Ghanaian industry.
His debut album, Oxlade From Africa, includes a collaboration with Ghanaian hip-hop star Sarkodie.
He also revealed that his experiences of racial abuse in France inspired the album’s title. “I decided to name my album Oxlade From Africa because I was racially abused in Monaco,” he explained.
This experience made him more aware of African identity and the stigma that exists outside the continent, contrasting how Africans perceive themselves versus how they are viewed by others.
