Lobi Stars attacking midfielder Ifeanyi Assurance has hailed his team’s coach, Daniel Amokachi, after recording his first double for the Benue State-owned club against Ikorodu City on Monday, October 21.
Ifeanyi Assurance joined Lobi Stars from Bayelsa United on August 31, 2024, and has played five league games since he joined the side.
The best day at the office for the 22-year-old attacking forward was scoring not just his first goal for the club but a double; unfortunately, his outstanding performance couldn’t stop his team from losing 4-2 against Ikorodu City.
Ifeanyi Assurance grabbed his debut goal for Lobi in the 5th minute of added time and the 6th minute of injury time, all in the first half of the encounter.
After scoring his second goal of the game and grabbing a first-half 2-2 equalizer for his team, Assurance ran to Daniel Amokachi to celebrate with him. Unfortunately for the visitors, Ikorodu City scored two more goals in the second half to seal the victory.
Despite the defeat, Ifeanyi Assurance was excited that he had opened his goals account with Lobi Stars as he praised his new manager.
When Naija News asked him why he ran to Daniel Amokachi to celebrate with the ex-Super Eagles star after scoring the double, Assurance said: “He is my big coach, he’s a guru, he’s a legend, you understand. He believes in me so once I scored the goal [I had to celebrate with him].
“He told me I’d score; I scored the first one, he told me I’d score again, and I scored the second one, so I had to go and give him the accolades, you understand.”
On why Lobi Stars lost their momentum in the second half allowing Ikorodu City to walk away with a 4-2 win, Assurance said, “I think the spirit was just down, we just took it like we’ve won already or that we’ve gotten something out of the game. We were just relaxed, we were too reluctant in the second half until they scored the third goal.
“Before we could know what was happening, they scored the fourth goal, so there was nothing we could do but fight till the final whistle, so the game turned out to be like this. Sometimes, it does happen.”
