IGP deploys more detectives to Benue for rescue of kidnapped students

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed additional detectives to Benue State to assist in the rescue of 20 abducted medical students.

The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were kidnapped along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu road on Thursday while traveling to a convention in Enugu.

On Saturday, Egbetokun ordered the deployment of tactical teams, including helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles, to aid the rescue efforts.

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, in a Sunday statement, confirmed the arrival of more detectives and called for public cooperation.

He stated, “The IG reiterates his commitment to rescuing the kidnapped medical students in Benue unharmed. He calls for understanding and support as additional trained detectives arrive in Benue.”

He urged citizens to refrain from sharing sensitive details online, commending those providing confidential information.
