The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has cautioned the people of the state to refrain from behaviours capable of causing social unrest in the state.
The police commissioner gave the warning while reacting to the burning down of the residence of Senator Frank Ibezim, an ex-senator who represented Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, by yet-to-be identified arsonists who also burnt down structures housing National Open University in Ezeoke Nsu Ehime Mbano LGA.
The Imo State Police Command in its press statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, ASP Henry Okoye, described the incident as unfortunate and an act capable of undermining the safety and security of communities in the state.
” The Command stands firmly against such acts and will take all necessary measures in synergy with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice” the statement said.
Responding to the attack, CP Danjuma had promptly deployed the command’s tactical unit to identify and apprehend those responsible for the arson.
Additionally, Danjuma had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The Commissioner of Police emphasised that no individual involved in the attack will escape what he termed as the full legal consequences, maintaining that the command is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served.
He further urged the public to refrain from spreading fake news or making inciting statements that could destabilise the current peace in the state. He warned that anyone found guilty of perpetuating false information will face the consequences.
Danjuma reassured that the police in synergy with other security agencies are dedicated to maintaining peace and order, as he encouraged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement efforts to safeguard the communities.
Senator Ibezim before the incident, had earlier made public announcement debunking a rumour alleging that there was a plan by the federal government to create an IDP camp for people displaced by insecurity in the northern part of the country in Nsu Ehime Mbano LGA.
The state government also debunked the rumour saying that what federal government is actually trying to do is to build an Acquisition Centre for the training of youths in the state.
