The government organised the training through the State Internal Revenue Service to strengthen the capacity of the participants on the new digital platform.
The executive chairman of Jigawa Internal Revenue Services, Dr Nasir Sabo Idris said, the new digital tax collection platform was developed to enhance tax collection and remittance services.
“The purpose of this gathering is to enlighten all accountants and other financial officers in the state’s ministries, departments and agencies on how to use the newly developed digital payment platform called ‘Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS),” he stated.
He noted that the new digital platform would help in tax administration and also tackle the issue of multiple taxations.
“Prior to this occasion, we met with all key stakeholders at the state and local government levels and other private organisations operating in the state to harmonise and consolidate the tax administration system to address the multiple taxation-complaint by taxpayers in the state.
“Improving tax collaboration means improvement for revenue and increase of revenue means more money for public infrastructure and social services that will improve the social and economic life of the taxpayers and the general public.
“The administration of Governor Umar Namadi is practically committed to making Jigawa great. Let’s join our hands to support the mission by effective tax collection practices through the use of the new digital platform (JIGTAS),” the chairman urged.
In his presentation, the accountant general of the state, Mr Abdullahi Shehu said, migration from the old system of tax collection to the new automation system remains pivotal for improving and enhancing tax collection in a contemporary world.
“ We must embrace the digital tax collection system for simplifying our work and make the Jigawa State tax collection process efficient and reliable against any revenue leakages,” he stated.
