Kano unveils multi-million naira cattle market

Kano State Governor, Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned a multi-million naira Dambatta international cattle market upgraded through a collaboration between the state Government and the Islamic Development Bank’s funded Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project.

This was made known in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Saturday.

The statement read, “The Dambatta cattle market is one of the five other upgraded markets, which include Tsanyawa, Falgore, Doguwa and Wudil cattle markets, respectively.

“In each of the five markets, the state government has provided loading ramps, water facilities, office accommodation for market information, security posts, veterinary services infrastructure, public conveniences, as well as electricity for security to trade even in dark hours.’

He said the initiative is toward the modernization of the livestock value chain, especially in the areas of transport logistics, to reduce mortality and improve a healthy environment.

The governor added that livestock trade has been a predominant business in the state, thereby supporting the livelihoods of millions of people, which in return reduces poverty and supports the economic activities around the overall agricultural value chain.

Responding on behalf of the Danbatta community, the Special Adviser to the governor on Publicity, Jamilu Danbatta, said the community would forever be grateful to the Governor for his efforts to promote the economic priority of the area.
