The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing the Federal University of Transportation, Daura.

He made this known while hosting the institution’s management team led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Umar Katsayal, at Katsina Government House Katsina on Friday.

Radda promised to encourage the company handling the university’s construction to undertake additional projects within the institution.

He commended the university management for their commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent policy in both employment and student admissions, saying, “Our administration recognises the pivotal role of specialised education in driving economic growth and technological advancement.

“We are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the University of Transportation, Daura, delivers on its mandate effectively.”

The governor also acknowledged the efforts of the Minister of Transportation, Sen. Sa’idu Alkali, in facilitating the swift establishment of the university, emphasising the importance of such institutions in Nigeria’s educational landscape.

Earlier in his address, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof Katsayal, highlighted the progress report on the institution’s academic activities, noting that the institution admitted approximately 600 students across 14 academic programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced ongoing preparations for the 2024/2025 admission exercise and the upcoming matriculation ceremony for the inaugural set of students.

“I want to express our gratitude to the state government and thank Governor Radda for the donation of a coaster bus to the university and the promise of an ambulance,” Katsayal said.

He also congratulated the governor on his first year in office and extended condolences on behalf of the university community for the recent passing of Dada Yar’adua.
