The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) has renovated Rido Community Primary School and also built a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, KRPC Managing Director, Dr. Mustafa Sugungun, emphasised the company’s commitment to improving the living standards of its host communities, highlighting the ongoing KRPC Quick Fix Project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, as a key initiative expected to boost economic activities.

“The success of the Quick Fix Project will bring immense economic benefits, creating job opportunities, boosting petty trading, and fostering other local businesses,” Dr. Sugungun said.

The managing director said, the school renovation aims to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers, while the borehole is expected to address water scarcity in the community while reaffirming KRPC’s dedication to sustainable development through initiatives like youth empowerment, rural electrification, periodic medical outreach, and other community-focused programs.

He urged the Rido community to support the ongoing Quick Fix Project, noting that its success would further strengthen the relationship between KRPC and its host communities.

“We remain committed to ensuring that our projects positively impact the lives of community members and contribute to their overall well-being,” he added.

The commissioning event was  attended by community leaders and stakeholders of Maraban Rido.

In her remarks, the Head Teacher of Rido Primary School, Mrs Rachael Aduwak commended KRPC for the good gesture. She also  appealed to the company  to construct perimeter fencing for the school,  adding, “ We appeal to KRPC to furnish our classes with tables, chairs, and chalkboard as most of our students are sitting on bare floors during class hours.

“The KRPC is conscious of the significance of the Host Communities to successful operations of our Plant, after completion of the Quick Fix Project.

We are mindful of the cordial relationship that exists between our Company and the Host Community.

“This relationship has led to peaceful coexistence with our Company in the past and of course will continue to thrive in the future. It is the firm resolve of the KRPC management to ensure that sensitive decisions and policies are made to impact positively on the lives of members of the host communities”.

He noted that over the years, the policy has led to positive Corporate Social Responsibilities embarked upon by KRPC through the Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programmes (YESAP) to mitigate youth unemployment with its attendant negative impact on peace, security, economic and social activities etc.

“In addition to the YESAP other social intervention by KRPC to the Host Community include some of the following Water bore hole rural electrification, school renovation periodic medical immunisation, security and safety sensitization programmes,
