Kwara Gov’t To Deworm 776,896 Children

The Kwara State government has announced plan to deworm 776,896 children between ages 5 to 14 years across 15 local government areas of the state.

The exercise is aimed at combating schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis through mass administration of medicines in all the 15 endemic local government areas.

Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Amina El-Imam disclosed this on Friday during the opening of a 3-day training workshop in Ilorin, the state capital.

She said the workshop was organized to equip key personnel with necessary skills to ensure a smooth and effective deworming campaign in the state.

El-Imam emphasised the significance of the exercise in promoting the health and wellbeing of children and called on parents, guardians, and school authorities to support the programme.

She further disclosed that to ensure the success of the programme, the government will train 3,000 teachers, 775 community-directed distributors, 300 health workers, 125 social mobilisation officers who will be deployed across the 15 endemic councils.

El-Imam commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare in the state.

She further thanked the team from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, and Sight Savers International for their support for healthcare delivery system in the state.
