The Lagos State Government has compensated 150 landowners whose property were acquired for public use.

Presenting cheques to the affected landowners on Tuesday in Alausa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the action was a fulfilment of the promise of fair compensation to citizens whose lands were acquired for the development of the state.

“Today, we held a symbolic public presentation of cheques for 150 beneficiaries who have been compensated for lands that were acquired by the Lagos State Government, in the interest of public good.

“This shows our commitment to fair compensation and also highlights the importance of community involvement in developmental projects that benefit the state,” the governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the compensations were for a variety of pivotal infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing urban mobility and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

“The projects are not just about infrastructure, they represent our ongoing commitment to the development of Lagos State,” he added in a statement on X.

The land acquisition by the government affected six communities Orile, Badagry, Katangura, Oyingbo Ultra Bus Terminal, Pen Cinema, Bus Terminal Abule Egba, and Maryland.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Land Bureau, Kamar Olowoshago, thanked the governor and the landowners for the mutually beneficial partnership.

Olowoshago said by acquiring these lands, the State Government had been able to execute projects that fostered a more organised, efficient, and economically viable environment for all citizens.

The initiatives, according to the Permanent Secretary, support the state’s goals in urban renewal, transport modernisation, job creation, and improved public safety, reflecting the state’s commitment to holistic development and improved quality of life.

“We acknowledge the significant role our beneficiaries have played in bringing these projects to life. You have demonstrated understanding and cooperation by allowing the State Government to use your land for the greater good, thus playing an essential role in our collective journey towards building a more livable and economically vibrant Lagos,” Olowoshago added.
