A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nafisat Umar, has provided 100 new school uniforms for primary school pupils in Katsina State as part of her Community Development Service (CDS) programme.

The uniforms were distributed on Monday, 2nd December 2024, at Batagarawa Low-Cost Primary School in a ceremony attended by government officials, NYSC representatives and community leaders.

Speaking at the event, the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aliyu Zakari lauded the project as a significant contribution to the well-being and education of the children in the community.

Zakari emphasised that Nafisat’s efforts exemplified the purpose of the NYSC CDS programme, which encourages corps members to identify and address the pressing needs of their host communities.

“This project reflects the spirit of service and commitment that the NYSC programme instills in young Nigerians. Nafisat Umar’s initiative has not only provided essential resources to these pupils but has also inspired hope and set a standard for others to follow,” Aliyu stated.

The commissioner further highlighted some of the corps member’s other impactful projects which include provision of clean water to underserved communities and empowering 20 women with skills in poultry farming.

He assured of continued government support for similar initiatives and urged other corps members to emulate Nafisat’s example.

Beneficiaries and community members expressed their gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention for indigent pupils in the area.

The NYSC CDS programme remains a cornerstone of the Corps’ mission, fostering development and unity through selfless service to the nation.
