Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has consented to the appointment of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakuleyin as the 43rd Olubadan of lbadanland.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Governor Makinde had recently at the final funeral ceremony of the late Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland hinted that Oba Olakuleyin would be installed when he is fit for the throne.

This pitched the governor against some interest parties, particularly from the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja who faulted the governor over the comment.

“I don’t have any problem if the governor refuses to give him staff of office or instrument of office, but he is not the one to enthrone him.

“Olakulehin is an aged man, we don’t expect him to still be acting like a youth,” Ladoja had stated in response to Makinde’s comment.

However, in a memo signed on June 14, 2024 in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 19 (Cap 28) Law of Oyo State 2000 as amended, Governor Makinde gave approval for Oba Olakuleyin to mount the throne as the next Olubadan.

A statement by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Honourable Olusegun Olayiwola, said the approval is a culmination of a series of processes stipulated by the extant laws of the state regarding ascension to royal thrones.

The statement added that the governor congratulated the new Olubadan, praying that his tenure will birth greater developments in Ibadanland and Oyo State as a whole.
