An 81-year-old man has been charged following protests in Nottingham city centre earlier this month.
Rival groups were separated by officers during the demonstrations near Old Market Square on 3 August.
Keith Edwards, of Kinglake Place, The Meadows, Nottingham, has been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.
He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 6 September.
Nottinghamshire Police said the demonstrations remained "largely peaceful" and had warned any other disorder would be met with a "robust response".
