- Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence following his second straight red card
- He was shown a second yellow card against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, a match they drew 3-3
- The midfielder's red card against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend was overturned
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes received a second straight red card in their 3-3 draw against Porto.
The Portugal international was shown a straight red card against Tottenham last weekend, but it was later rescinded, meaning he will be available this weekend.
The 30-year-old has released a statement ahead of Sunday's clash at Aston Villa.
Fernandes was shown a straight red card at Old Trafford for clipping James Maddison. It was his first red card in five years.
Days later, it was overturned after a successful appeal by the club, per Sky Sports. The team perhaps felt hard done by, considering they played the second half with 10 men.
What did Bruno Fernandes say?
Against Porto, the midfielder was dismissed after getting a second yellow card in the 82nd minute for a high boot.
He was attempting to get on the end of a cross, but Porto defender Nehuen Perez went in with his head and went down holding his head.
The referee assessed the situation carefully before showing Fernandes a red card. Harry Maguire rescued a point late for Man United after they blew a 2-0 lead.
Fernandes wrote a long message on Instagram explaining his mindset after the red cards.
"Tough moment as a team and personally for me, one of the hardest. Almost 5 years at the club with ups and downs, good and bad moments," he said."I know it sounds cliche and most of you United fans will be tired of it, but no one is more disappointed than myself with my own moment."He will likely be in the starting lineup at Villa Park as they try to bounce back following their loss to Tottenham.
Fernandes coach Erik ten Hag is under pressure, and many feel he could be fired if they lose to high-flying Aston Villa.
Man United owner on Erik ten Hag
Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe broke his silence on Erik ten Hag's future.
Ratcliffe said the team in charge of running football will be responsible for making decisions like firing the coach.
