‘Manchester United To Sacrifice Hojlund, Zirkzee, Or Rashford For Osimhen’s Signature’

Manchester United could add one of Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, or Marcus Rashford in their offer to Napoli for the signature of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim has had a challenging start at Manchester United, recording four wins, one draw, and four losses. The Portuguese manager has taken on some challenges from his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, particularly in improving the team’s ability to score consistently. Addressing these offensive struggles will be crucial for Amorim’s success.

A notable development in the squad is Rashford’s intention to seek a move away from the club, which seems to have caused a rift between him and the manager. Hence, TBR Football reported that Rashford could potentially be included in the exchange deal for Osimhen, especially considering United’s limited funds for a direct £60 million transaction.

The recent performance of Victor Osimhen who is currently on loan at Galatasaray after being sidelined in Italy, has been impressive. His ongoing success in the Turkish Super Lig, where he has scored nine times in 754 minutes, highlights his ability to contribute significantly to a team.

Recall that during his first Serie A season with Napoli, he scored 10 goals, then increased that tally to 14 and 26 in subsequent seasons. Despite injuries in the 2023-2024 season, he managed to net 15 goals and provide three assists in just 22 league appearances.

Given that Manchester United have scored only 21 goals in 17 Premier League matches this season—an area of concern with 14 clubs outperforming them—Osimhen’s arrival could provide the boost the team needs. Currently, Bruno Fernandes and Rashford lead the scoring charts for the club with four goals each, while Hojlund and Zirkzee have only five combined goals.

United’s underlying metrics indicate further room for improvement, with the club holding just the 10th highest expected goals (xG) in the Premier League and ranking ninth for big chances created. If this trend continues, the team may finish with around 46 goals this season, marking their lowest total since the 1989-1990 season.
