Minister of Works Dave Umahi has unveiled the 1000-kilometer Sokoto/Badagry Super Highway yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

At a stakeholders’ engagement held at Presidential Lodge, Umahi said, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, directed that the ancient Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Oyo states should be linked with a six lane concrete road.

He added that Sokoto would have 160 kilometres of road in its land as phase one, while the Kebbi, with phase two, would be 258 kilometres long.

According to him, the 258-kilometer Kebbi road would be phase one and completed before the Sokoto road, which will end at Illela border town from Badagry, Lagos State.

He emphasised that the road from Sokoto to Badagry would be of economic importance as it would capture 53 dams used for irrigation, agriculture, and electricity generation and border African countries.

Umahi, however, pointed out that it is the right time for any government to discourage awarding road contracts to international contractors and encourage local contractors.
