It was learnt that the impromptu NEC meeting is slated for 8am on Tuesday (today) with all heads of affiliates and state chapters of NLC expected to be in attendance.
The leadership Nigeria Labour Congress has called for an emergency National Executive Council meeting following the invitation of its National President, Joe Ajaero, by the police for allegedly financing terrorism.
It was learnt that the impromptu NEC meeting is slated for 8am on Tuesday (today) with all heads of affiliates and state chapters of NLC expected to be in attendance.
The notice of the meeting quoted by PUNCH, titled, “Notice of emergency National Executive Council meeting,” was signed by the NLC’s Secretary General, Emmanuel Ugboaja.
The notice read, “I bring you fraternal greetings from the congress headquarters.
“You are invited to the emergency National Executive Council Hybrid meeting scheduled as follows: Tuesday, August 20, 2024; 8am, Olaitan Oyerinde Hall, Labour House.”
SaharaReporters had reported that Ajaero was summoned by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), over allegations of “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
The invitation, detailed in an official letter, requires Ajaero to appear for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at the IRT Complex in Guzape District, Abuja.
According to the letter, the investigation has identified Ajaero as a person of interest in the case.
Reacting, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) expressed concerns over a Nigerian police invitation, which is allegedly a witch-hunt of its President, Joe Ajaero.
In a statement issued by the union's Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the NLC leadership demanded clarification from the police authorities, seeking to understand the basis for the invitation of their president.
