Nigerians React As Doyin Okupe Shares Cryptic Post After Peter Obi Shunned Soyinka’s 90th Birthday

A former presidential media aide, Doyin Okupe, has shared some lessons about politics, stating that there are no permanent friends and enemies but only permanent interests.

Naija News reports that Okupe made this post while referencing the visit of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, to Literary Icon, Wole Soyinka, in 2023.

In the post via his X handle, Okupe wrote,

POLITICS 101: In this game, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.

“POLITICS 102: If a friend was disagreeable yesterday but can still serve yr interest tomorrow, he remains a friend.

“POLITICS 103: In this game of politics, there is no room for rabid passion, fanaticm, insults and abuses. Caution, restraint, courtesy, diplomacy, temperance, and tolerance are always profitable to employ.

“POLITICS 104: Repeated failures, jeopardy of interest, pain, shame and ignominy are the consequences of not adhering to the above 3 established tenets of politics.

“IF U KNOW U KNOW. IF U DONT, THEN PREPARE TO LEARN.”

However, some Nigerians claimed that the post resonated from Peter Obi’s failure to celebrate Soyinka’s 90th birthday via his social media page.

@Udoh_D wrote: “Prof. Soyinka is an elder statesman who must be respected, and he too must conduct himself properly to retain that respect. Aside from that, Konga has no political value as he is just a literary giant. Lastly, he drew the first blood in all this friction; PO said nothing to him.”

Politics of bigotry and jingoism have destroyed any good reputation left in you. You have no shreds of national interest”

@LeopardEastern wrote: “Wole Soyinka should not expect Peter Obi to wish him a happy birthday after rubbishing his personality”

@Ohijeme wrote: “Is Soyinka waiting for birthday wishes from PO? Tell him that he will wait in vain.”

@IPREACHPEAC3 wrote: “Everyone has their principles and values, you don’t expect OBI to act like you. Let OBI act like OBI and you should act like the clown 🤡 you are.”
