Meanwhile, the NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has stressed that he aims to attract potential investors by emphasizing the values of transparency, credibility, and high-quality officiating.
During a roundtable discussion with league reporters held in Akure, Elegbeleye reassured stakeholders that the league organizers are steadfast in their commitment to uphold standards and integrity within the competition.
He outlined proactive measures being implemented to enhance the league’s reputation, stating, “We will not compromise on standards.”
Elegbeleye highlighted the introduction of regulations designed to uphold fairness in the league, including a reduction of three points for teams that violate the rules, alongside financial penalties aimed at ensuring that visiting teams feel secure and are not subjected to intimidation.
Reflecting on the positive impact of these measures, he indicated that since the implementation of point deductions, home teams have increasingly begun to protect their opponents, which has led to a notable decrease in the “home team must win” mentality.
Note that during the first matchday of the current season, an impressive four away wins were recorded, showcasing a shift in competitive dynamics.
Also, Elegbeleye has stressed the importance of strict adherence to rules and maintaining high standards within the league. He expressed optimism about the prospect of attracting investors, stating, “There are numerous investors who are ready to partner with us for the growth of the league.”
