The Management of KAM Steel Integrated Company has cleared the air over the death of a worker, identified as Yahaya Ibrahim, who died after slipping into the engine roller at the company’s plant along the Sagamu-Ogijo expressway in Ogun State.
Naija News reported that the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the deceased’s body had been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue.
In a statement on Monday, the Head of Human Capital of the steel firm, Tunde Badejo, said the deceased was
the staff of one of the Contractors to the company, and he was not operating the machine at the time of the incident.
According to the management, the incident, which happened late in the evening (on Saturday) at about 9.12 pm, was promptly reported to the DPO of the area.
Badejo described the incident as purely industrial in nature involving only the deceased, pointing out that no one else was involved.
He also noted that “there is an ongoing thorough investigation of the incident with possible post-mortem report to situate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Company appealed to the public, “to please ignore any hearsay unverified report pending the outcome of the investigation and possible postmortem report on the incident.”
