Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans by his administration to launch electric bikes as part of the state’s energy transition initiative  .

When launched, the move will be the second phase of  his administration’s e-mobility programme , following the launch of CNG- powered buses last year.

The move , aimed at cushioning the challenges associated with artificial scarcity of petroleum as well as  the frequent hike in pump price  iof the product, was  contained in a statement issued and signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Lekan Adeniran, yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Abiodun’s CPS in the statement disclosed that the launching, billed for Wednesday next week, was part of the fallout of Abiodun’s meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali in Abuja on Thursday.

‘‘When launched, the electric bike transportation system will be the second phase of the administration’s e-mobility programme embarked upon by the Dapo Abiodun led administration in Ogun following the launch of the Converted Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses introduced in the year 2023.’’

Abiodun described the planned introduction as a significant step towards providing a sustainable transportation system for the people of the state, stressing that such will go a long way at reducing transportation fares across the state, stressing that gas and electricity are cheaper when compared with petroleum fuelled transportation systems.
