Ondo: NURTW urged to steer clear of nationwide planned protest

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged residents of Ondo State, particularly the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state, not to participate in planned nationwide protests in the country.

According to the governor, during a peace meeting with former chairmen, leaders, and members of NURTW in the state, the protest bore the semblance of the EndSARS saga and the Kenya scenario.

Some Nigerians in the past few days, particularly in the social media space, have been trending the planned protest with the hashtags ‘EndBadGovernance,’ ‘TinubuMustGo’ as well as ‘Revolution2024.’

Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Union Matters, Bola Taiwo, appealed to NURTW members to shun the protest in the interest of the state and the people.

“We don’t want any pandemonium in our state; bye-bye to any protest; we should not join any protest in this state; we want peace in Ondo State and South West in general. During the EndSars protest, a lot of properties were destroyed in this country, and when we look at what is happening in Kenya, it is devastating, and that is why we are engaging the members of the NURTW; we don’t want that here.

“Mr Governor has given a directive that there should not be any protest that will lead to violence in the state, and that is why we are appealing to everyone in the state not to join,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting attended by three former chairmen of NURTW in the state, namely Solomon Adejayan, Oladutele Obayoriade, and Jacob Adebo, the chairman of the union, Ademola Odudu, assured the governor that there would be no protests in the state.

“We have addressed all our members not to join the protest that could lead to any breakdown of laws and orders because we are not troublemakers, we are not thugs, and we are very responsible,” he said.
