Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police, Adekunle Omoyele (rtd) as the new Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps.

The appointment of Omoyele comes after the expiration of the tenure of Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi who was appointed Corps Commander by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

The announcement was made by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, “Omoyele was a former Chief Security Officer to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.

“He retired recently after meritorious service to the Nigeria Police for 35 years and was appointed by Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Special Adviser on Internal Security and Local Matters, now the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps.”

The statement revealed that, “Amotekun is a security network jointly formed by all South-West governors.

“It was set up to complement the efforts of other federal security agencies to tackle crimes in the South West zone.”

DAILY POST recalls that Amitolu Shittu, the Field Commander of the security outfit resigned in 2023, some months after Governor Adeleke assumed office.

In a Facebook post on January 20, 2023, Shittu revealed that, “I am stepping aside from Amotekun for good. Thank you all.”

In the same vein, the state governor approved the appointment of AIG Wale Bass (rtd) as the Chairman, Osun Amotekun Board.

He also retained retired Nigerian Army Captain, Benedict Olusoji Akanni as the Field Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps.

The appointments conveyed in letters by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye dated July 3rd, 2024, took immediate effect.
