The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) has commenced distributing packs of foodstuffs to 300 widows, people living with disability (PLWDs), among other vulnerable citizens of the state.
The package containing rice and beans, as well as cash gifts was embedded in the mandate of the agency as directed by the State government in conjunction with the Federal Government and World Bank, under the NG-CARES programme.
The programme which kick-started at Lagelu local government held at Alegongo in Akobo while that of Akinyele local government held at its secretariat in Ibadan on Monday and will go round the State.
Chairman of OYCSDA, Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga appreciated the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde towards making the living condition of citizens in the state bearable by providing funds for community micro-projects and the psychosocial support programme for the vulnerable people.
Adeaga enjoined the beneficiaries to also cultivate the habit of magnanimity with the little God has endowed them with to ease their living conditions.
“We have come today to deliver on the mandate given to our agency to not only intervene in community development micro-projects in the areas of education, health, sanitation, water and erosion control, we are here to do the other part, which is to provide for the vulnerable people in our communities.
“This set of people include widows, people with special needs, the aged, among others. They were mostly affected by the last global economic downturn caused by Covid-19 that led to the NG-CARES programme and we have been using this psychosocial platform to reach out to them,” Adeaga said.
Also, OYCSDA’s General Manager, Mr Salau Jelili highlighted other areas the agency had intervened to make the lives of community dwellers become conducive which include construction of new or renovation of classrooms, culverts, community healthcare centers, provision of motorised boreholes and construction of public toilets in communities.
He added that Governor Makinde-led administration has succeeded in putting micro-projects in every local government in Oyo State according to the needs of each community.
