A yet-to-be-identified passenger, on Thursday, sustained a fractured leg when the tricycle conveying him had a collision with a Toyota Venza car along the Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a telephone conversation with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.
Taofiq noted that the impact of the collision led to the fracture sustained by the passenger who was rescued by LASTMA personnel in the area to a nearby hospital.
He narrated, “The accident happened at the JigiWura Event Centre inward of Ota-Ona from the Itamaga area of Ikorodu. It involved a Toyota Venza (no registration) and a tricycle KTP 019 HQ.
“The tricycle, while on top speed, hit the Venza car behind after losing control. One person was seriously injured and was immediately rushed to St Raphael Hospital at Ikorodu.”
He urged motorists to be conscious of traffic signs while driving on the expressway and stressed the dangers the rains could cause for road users.
“The agency warmed motorists, including tricycle operators, to always ensure they adhere to the speed limit as displayed on various road signs erected by the Lagos State Government.
“They should equally consider the rainy season by ensuring their braking system is regularly checked before embarking on any journey within or outside the State,” Taofiq said.
PUNCH Metro reported on Thursday that a driver transporting gas in a tanker sustained injuries when his vehicle overturned along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Wednesday.
The driver whose identity was unknown, was reported to have been receiving treatment in a medical facility in the state.
Taofiq added that the swift intervention of LASTMA personnel, in conjunction with the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, averted a potential disaster resulting from the incident.
