A communal clash in Jigawa State on Friday has resulted in the death of nine people while four others suffered varying degrees of injuries has been confirmed by the state police Command.
The communal clash, DAILY POST learned occurred on Friday in Miga Local Government Area of the state and claimed nine lives and left many others hospitalised.
A source from Gululu village said a stakeholders meeting was immediately convened and was attended by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chairmen of the two LGAs, District Heads, Miyetti Allah leadership, and vigilance groups.
According to him, the meeting discussed strategies to maintaining law and order and avoiding violence, propaganda, and reprisal attacks followed what happened in the incident.
SP Shi’isu Adam, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the clashes in a statement, explained that the incident occurred between some communities in the Jahun Local Government Area.
He further explained that scores of people were reported dead while others are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
Adam explained that on January 3, 2025, information from Gululu village in Miga LGA indicated that a group of miscreants, suspected to be Fulani broke into a shop and stole a quantity of hibiscus and other provisions.
He said, “A team of villagers, Hausawa, traced their footprints to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.”
On sighting the team, he stated that the Fulani started shooting the villagers with bows and arrows and as a result, four persons were critically injured as the villagers mobilised and started attacking the Fulani and setting their houses ablaze at various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs.
Upon receipt of the report, Adam said that a team of police officers from the Miga and Jahun Divisions rushed to the scene to assess the situation and restore peace and order.
He confirmed that unfortunately, nine bodies were recovered, stressing that the corpses were transported to Jahun and Miga hospitals, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed them dead.
The police spokesperson further stated that the situation has been brought under control, saying that the investigation is currently ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
