Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested a 34-year-old Glory Samuel for allegedly withdrawing about N120 million from the bank account of his businessman neighbour.

LEADERSHIP learnt that Samuel’s victim had shared a market space with the suspect where they spent about 15 years together selling different items.

Spokesperson of Bauchi Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Wednesday, said the arrest followed the complaint lodged by the business person to the police over the suspicious and unauthorised withdrawal of N2,068,000 on the account on April 1, 2024.

Samuel allegedly exploited his neighbour’s trust by deceitfully borrowing his phone and installed Opay and MoneyPoint which enabled him to transfer the funds to different bank accounts on various occasions.

“Samuel disclosed that a friend he had met at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in 2011 before dropping out of Computer Science, convinced him that he could make money by accessing a wealthy individual’s phone,” the statement read in parts.

Police said items recovered from Samuel include 8 tricycles; N35,000,000 in cash; 2 uncompleted buildings; 60 bags of cooking charcoal; 30 bags of fertilizer; 2 motorcycles and 2 industrial sewing machines.

While trying to evade questioning from his uncle and girlfriend about the sudden change in his lifestyle, Samuel assured them that he was earning money through an online business when they inquired about his new income.

On completion of its investigation, the police said the suspect will face legal charges in court.
