Police Nab Notorious Kidnap Gang Leader In Yobe

Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command on Monday apprehended a suspected notorious kidnap gang leader, Haruna Mohammed, a 40 year-old resident of Lantewa Village in Tarmuwa local government area of the state.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said Mohammed specialises in demanding money and valuables from victims through menacing phone calls, threatening death, or harm.

DSP Abdulkarim said the Command had been tracking the suspect over his involvement in terrorising towns, villages, and neighbouring states.

LEADERSHIP gathered that a victim from Siminti Village, Lantewa in Tarmuwa LGA, reported that Mohammed demanded N3, 000,000.00 with a threat to kill him and his family members.

Abdulkarim said detectives from the SID in a coordinated operation following an intensive intelligence operations on 16th May, 2024 at about 1415hr arrested Mohammed at Nangillam Village in Tarmuwa local government area.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed reiterated that there is no hiding place for criminals either in the urban or rural areas of Yobe State.

The CP affirmed that the Command has recorded another significant success in its quest to rid the state of criminal elements, pledging that anyone with a criminal tendency will face stiff resistance.

He urged communities to report any form of attack, attempts, or commission of crime to the police and called for adequate support to ensure security in the state.

The statement said the suspect has confessed to the crime and implicated other syndicate members, who are currently being trailed by the police.
