Protest: Avoid accidental discharge – NSCDC warns personnel in Yobe

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Yobe State Command, has charged its operatoratives to conduct themselves professionally while discharging their duties, especially while handling arms to avoid accidental discharge.

The Yobe State Commandant of NSCDC, Adamu Idris Zakari, gave the charge while briefing newsmen on the planned nationwide protest shortly after a meeting with officers of the command in Damaturu.

Zakari, who warned them against accidental discharge, advised them to operate within the confines of Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) stipulated by the corps.

He said any untoward behaviour by any personnel towards the peaceful protesters would not be condoned as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had given them the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration.

“In the event where unscrupulous elements among the protesters might wish to hijack the protest, operatives must act within the rules of engagement to put a stop to destruction of life and property, particularly critical national assets and infrastructure, being the core mandate of the core”, he said.

He also implored youths to exercise patience and patriotism in order not to jeopardise the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
