The Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council (RSTRC) has thrown its full support behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara by passing a vote of confidence in his administration.

Naija News reports that the council also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take steps to resolve the escalating political tensions in the state.

At an extraordinary meeting on October 8, 2024, chaired by His Majesty Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, the council reviewed the recent developments in Rivers State and had reaffirmed their solidarity with Governor Fubara. Eze Wodo, the Eze Oha Apara IV of Apara Kingdom, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace amid the growing political unrest.

The council commended the state government’s efforts in bolstering security, noting the improved performance of the police and other security agencies.

They also praised the governor’s leadership during the October 5 local government elections, which were conducted peacefully despite security concerns.

In a statement on Friday, the council said: “We express our unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, recognizing his leadership and commitment to the peace and development of Rivers State. We will stand by him throughout his tenure as he continues to implement policies and programs for the good of the state.”

The monarchs called on President Tinubu to ensure that neither his actions nor those of his associates further aggravate the political situation.

They urged all political stakeholders to set aside their differences for the sake of peace and unity in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara, in response, thanked the traditional rulers for their continued backing.

He assured them of his administration’s respect for the traditional institution and vowed not to undermine their authority.

He also attributed the peaceful conduct of the recent elections to divine intervention and announced the approval of official vehicles for the monarchs, instructing the Secretary to the State Government to ensure their swift distribution or provide cash alternatives if preferred.

“Your support today strengthens my resolve to serve the people of Rivers State. As the custodians of our culture and communities, your role is vital, and we will continue to honor and respect your positions,” Fubara said.
