The Sokoto State Government said as part of the measures to curb activities of bandits in the eastern axis of the state, consultation has reached an advanced stage to establish a military camp in the area mostly affected by bandit attacks.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir announced this while addressing a gathering at Sabon Pegi in Sabon Birni town.

The camp, according to Alhaji Gobir, will be established in one of the three towns of Burkusuma, Dama or Magira that are experiencing frequent banditry attacks.

The deputy governor therefore implored the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District to shun fabricators of stories and rumour mongers of security issues, describing them as unpatriotic.

Alhaji Gobir, who called on the people to remain security conscious in the fight against banditry, also reiterated the commitment of Governor Ahmad Aliyu-led administration to fight against the scourge.

He also used the opportunity to announce that the contractor handling the construction of Tsululu Road in Sabon Birni would return to the site for the completion of the project.

In their separate remarks, the Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni local government, Alhaji Garba Umar Kaba and his Isa counterpart, Alhaji Isah Mohammed Dandela disclosed that significant success was being recorded in the fight against banditry in the zone.

According to them, “that has contributed to the reduction of the number of banditry attacks.”

They therefore called for the sustenance of the efforts.
