‘Super Eagles’ Augustine Eguavoen Leaves Nigeria For Medical Check-Up’

Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen has departed Nigeria for Belgium to undergo a routine medical checkup.

According to SCORENigeria, Augustine Eguavoen plans to join the Super Eagles training camp in Abidjan immediately after his medical appointment abroad.

Note that the Super Eagles are set to face off against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.

This fixture will take place at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan at 8 p.m. on November 14.

In preparation for this match, the Super Eagles are scheduled to officially open their training camp in Abidjan on Monday.

Following the encounter with Benin, the team will welcome the Amavubi of Rwanda to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Monday, November 18, as part of their continued efforts in the qualification campaign.

Currently, Nigeria leads Group D with a total of 10 points, having accumulated these from four matches played thus far.

They hold a significant lead of four points over their nearest competitor, the Benin Republic. To secure their position in the AFCON 2025 tournament, the Super Eagles require just one additional point from the upcoming match against Benin.

In light of recent performances, former Nigeria international, Nwankwo Kanu has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider appointing Augustine Eguavoen as the substantive head coach of the Super Eagles.

Kanu said, “If I were the NFF President, I’d have given him the job by now. What are they waiting for? Are we waiting for him to lose two matches before we say he should go? This is overdue; they have to act.”
