Super Eagles Coaching Job: Swedish Coach, Janne Andersson Confirms Talks With NFF

Janne Andersson, the former head coach of the Sweden national team, has confirmed that he is in discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the vacant Super Eagles coaching position.

The NFF has been in search of a new Super Eagles head coach for over two months following the resignation of former Nigeria international, Finidi George.

Janne Andersson has reportedly expressed his interest in coaching the three-time African champions and has acknowledged the appeal of managing such a prominent footballing nation.

In an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen, Andersson said, “It’s a huge footballing nation, so I’m extremely flattered to be in the running to be their next national team coach.”

He further added, “Dialogue is ongoing and I don’t want to say more than that. I have been in this industry for so long and know that things can happen in different ways. So we’ll see what happens in the future.”

This is the first time Janne Andersson or any other coaches linked with the vacant Super Eagles coaching job have admitted that they are negotiating with the NFF. The other big-name coach who is strongly linked to the vacant job is a two-time AFCON-winning tactician from France, Hervé Renard.

Note that the Super Eagles, who are currently without a coach, are expected to take on Benin Republic and Rwanda in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September 2024.
