Tension As Gunmen Abduct UNN Dean, Others

Professor Oguejiofo Ujam, a prominent academic at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was abducted on Sunday while traveling along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road.

Prof. Ujam, who serves as the Dean of the School of General Studies and is a lecturer in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, is one of several victims reportedly kidnapped along this route in the past week.

A social media influencer, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, shared the news on Facebook, stating, “Prof Oguejiofo T. Ujam was kidnapped yesterday morning along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka road.

“He is a lecturer at the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, and Dean, School of General Studies University Of Nigeria Nsukka.

“Our prayers are needed for his safe return to us, unharmed.”

A colleague from UNN, speaking anonymously to Daily Post, confirmed that the kidnapping was shared in the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNN chapter’s WhatsApp group, where a message urgently called for help for Prof. Ujam, who was taken near Opi-Enugu Road.

Despite numerous police and military checkpoints along the Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, the rate of kidnappings has alarmingly increased, with daily abductions reported.

The recent wave of incidents has heightened concerns about the safety of commuters on this road, as residents call for more effective measures to curb the rising insecurity.
