Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have destroyed eight vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) and killed over 70 terrorists during raids on camps in the Lake Chad Basin.
A statement by MNJTF’s Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Abubakar said the force in continuation of Operation Lake Sanity 2 carried out successful aerial operations in the region.
He said in recent aerial operations, the Force successfully destroyed terrorists’ camps situated across the Cameroonian and Nigerian territories of Lake Chad, where many terrorists were killed and others fleeing into Chad.
Lt.-Col. Abubakar said during the operation, troops destroyed eight vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) in Arinna ciki and two ammunition bunkers Northeast of Malam Fatori.
In another encounter, Lt.-Col. Abubakar said troops of Sector 2, with the support of the Chadian Rapid Intervention Force neutralised 70 terrorists and dismantled five camps.
He said the successful operation highlighted the efficacy of MNJTF’s operational strategies and the robust collaboration with the Chadian Armed Forces.
The Information officer extended MNJTF’s appreciation to the Chadian Armed Forces for their invaluable cooperation and support in the fight against terrorism.
“We also acknowledge the vital contributions from other troop-contributing countries, including Operation Emergence 4 Cameroon, Operation Hadin Kai Nigeria, and Sector 4 Niger, which were instrumental in the success of Operation Lake Sanity 2,” he said.
He therefore, reiterated that MNJTF remains committed to its mandate of eradicating terrorism and restoring peace to the Lake Chad Basin.
“We will continue to work tirelessly with our partners to achieve and sustain this critical goal,” Abubakar added.
