Two to die by hanging for armed robbery in Delta

A High Court sitting in Kwale, Delta State, has sentenced Mr. Bright Ossai and Mr. Izagwu Obodo to death by hanging for armed robbery.

Justice F. O. Enenmo sentenced the first defendant, Mr. Bright Ossai, in case HCK/50C/2022, for robbing one Hycent Abandy of his Denstar motorcycle while armed with a gun at Owessi Street, Kwale.

The court held that Ossai was caught on the spot when his victim, Hycent, raised the alarm.

The court was told that the police rushed to the scene to rescue the victim and recovered the gun from the robber. The police also recovered another motorcycle he had earlier robbed, which he had sold to Mr. Ebele Pius at Ossisa.

Two witnesses testified against the defendant, who did not call any witnesses.

Justice Enenmo thereafter sentenced Bright Ossai to death by hanging, while Mr. Ebele Pius was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour or a fine of N500,000,000.

In case No. HCK/13C/2021, Justice Enenmo sentenced Izagwu Obodo to death by hanging for the murder of Nonso Dibia on August 21, 2021, at Umu, where he shot the victim.

The prosecution, led by C. O. Onoberhie-Oberuomo, called three witnesses and tendered various exhibits, while the defendant testified without calling any witnesses.

In another case, Suit No. HCK/19C/2021, Chukwu Ijeoma was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for carnal knowledge of one Nwachukwu Chioma Precious on January 4, 2021, at Aboh community.

The prosecution was led by C. O. Onoberhie-Oberuomo, Assistant Director in the Ministry of Justice, Asaba.

In another case, with file No. HCK/14C/2021, the defendant, Ugochukwu Ashiwe, was convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for attempting to murder Ndoka Okolocha by stabbing him with a broken bottle on October 31, 2020, at Kwale. The prosecution called two witnesses, while the defendant testified and called one witness.
