President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has come under fire for his recent comments about Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Naija News reports that Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, criticized Peter Obi for remaining silent on the Supreme Court’s judgment that granted full financial autonomy to local governments.

He expressed his frustration that Obi had not commented on the ruling, even after 36 hours had passed.

Onanuga wrote, “Why is Peter Obi silent?

“More than 36 hours after the Supreme Court gave a landmark ruling, granting financial autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 local councils, Mr. Peter Obi, the defeated Labour Party candidate, has yet to utter a word on the epochal judgment.

“His silence confirms the belief that he is always quick to tweet unverified news about the Tinubu administration or our country.”

Onanuga’s remarks sparked backlash from Obi’s supporters, who took to the comment section to defend the former Anambra governor.

Charly Boy responded to Onanuga’s post with, “Why are you so shameless?

Similarly, renowned Nigerian journalist David Hundeyin commented, “Go drunk Bayo, you’re home.

FS Yusuf, an X user and influencer, also chimed in, as he wrote, “Sugar dey him mouth? Why are you looking for what he will say? If your policies will work, you will hear it from the masses and not Peter Obi. Shebi una say una win election?

“Or are you saying that Tinubu’s government now waits for Peter Obi validation to know they have done the right thing.”
