Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Tuesday, announced a two-week holiday for civil servants in the state to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
During a press briefing at the Government House in Makurdi, the governor revealed that the holiday will start on December 24 and run until January 6, 2025.
He explained that the extended break was intended to allow state workers to enjoy the festive season with their families.
In his address, Alia encouraged civil servants to use the opportunity to engage in farming activities, which he highlighted as crucial for ensuring food security in the state.
He said: “I urge you to seize the opportunity of this long holiday to attend to your agricultural pursuit by engaging in farming activities so that food will be abundant in the state.”
The governor clarified that essential services, including banks, energy providers, and security agencies, would continue to operate during the holiday period.
He also urged the people of Benue to embrace the spirit of love and peace and stay committed to building a better state.
